Clinton Middle School Hosts Longest Table Event
On September 26, around 300 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students gathered at an impressive 320-foot communal table set up outside the school, hosting the first-ever middle school "Longest Table" event.
The Longest Table is a national movement focused on strengthening community through a shared meal. Seventh-grade teacher Sarah Gaetano introduced the concept and the students enthusiastically led the effort to host their own.
The event was entirely student-driven. Student leaders ensured that seating assignments encouraged new connections. Discussion questions were placed at each seat to spark conversation. The atmosphere was positive and uplifting, creating good vibes among all participants.
Debbie Goetz, a partner with The Longest Table movement, visited the school and praised the students for taking ownership of the project. She noted that the event successfully achieved its goal of creating connections.
District Superintendent Christopher Clancy emphasized the community spirit. He noted the pride he felt in the students and staff, pointing out that the effort, which included locating 40 tables and 300 chairs, proved they will always find a way to make important things happen. He concluded that The Longest Table truly showed how close the District family is.
