Elementary School Grading/Report Card Letter

Clinton Elementary School Grading  

 

Modified Grading due to COVID-19 Pandemic 

April 2020 

This modification is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s interruption to the 2019-2020 school year, Clinton Elementary recognizes that during these unprecedented times, on-going learning is essential. In order to ensure equity in our students opportunities and outcomes, we have modified our grading methods and procedures to accommodate for adjustments due to homebound instruction.

Modified Grading Policy for Grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Adjustments of Grading Protocol 

  • Grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade; English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics 

Modification of Marking Periods 

  • Marking periods one and two will remain as recorded
  • Marking periods three and four will be combined - anticipated Board Policy change approval in May
    • Numerical grades will not be provided
    • Data obtained during the third marking period prior to closure on March 16th will be averaged for a baseline.
    • Grades/information obtained after March 16 will ONLY be factored into a student’s final report card if it positively impacts them.  
    • ALL students are required to complete the assignments.
    • A Proficiency Scale score will be provided.

D - Developing the Skills to Meet Expectations

N - Does Not Meet Expectations

NE - Not Evaluated

 

Proficiency Scale for Third through Fifth Grade

E - Excellent

S - Satisfactory

I - Improving

V - Varying

U - Unsatisfactory

NI - Needs Improvement

NE - Not Evaluated

 

  • Grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade; Special Area - Art, Music, Physical Education, Band, Chorus
    • Data obtained during the third marking period prior to closure on March 16th will be averaged for a baseline.
    • Grades/information obtained after March 16 will ONLY be factored into a student’s final report card if it positively impacts them.

Communication 

This can be an overwhelming and confusing time for children and adults.  If you or your child needs clarification on skills or assignments, or need our support in any way, do not hesitate to reach out.  You can contact us - Teacher, Principal, or School Social Worker - by email or by calling the school; 315-557-2255 or 315-557-2271.  We continue to check messages and will get back to you.  

 

  • Grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade are in constant communication with students and families via Google Classroom, Zoom, and/or Class Tag.  Please contact your child’s teacher for support.  
  • If we don’t hear from you or your child is inactive in the virtual classrooms, we will be reaching out for a Wellness Check.
