Fitness Center Exercise Room Closing Temporarily
July 27, 2018
Dear Clinton Fitness Center Member:
I regret to inform you that we have found it necessary to temporarily close the Fitness Center beginning August 1, 2018, and refunds will be issued as soon as possible. This will only effect the Fitness Center exercise room, not the classes with instructors. Classes will continue to function as scheduled.
As you may or may not have been aware, the Fitness Center has been operating with losses that have been subsidized by our school budget. The losses are mostly associated with the cost of supervision in the Fitness Center Room, not the classes. While we expect there will be a cost deficit in its operation to a certain extent, the losses we experienced over the last two years; approximately $14,000 in 16-17, and approximately $18,000 in 17-18, are simply too much and we cannot continue to operate in such a manner without a significant change to our delivery model. At a loss averaging around $1,500 per month, we know that time is of the essence in our response.
The Fitness Center is certainly a community asset and is important to both our students and community. It is my hope that we can work together to identify positive changes to the business model that will allow us to reopen it to the public as soon as possible. I would like to hold an information and listening session with our Fitness Center and community members on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Fitness Center. I will also be posting some information on our website in the near future in preparation for that meeting.
- The supervised Fitness Center room portion of the program is closed until further notice as of August 1, 2018. Refunds will be issued to members.
- The classes with instructors will continue to operate unaffected.
- The Fitness Center is still available to staff and students as per our regular program and procedures.
- Information and brainstorming meeting on Wednesday, August 8 in the Fitness Center room at 6 p.m.
I am sorry for this sudden change, but look forward to crafting a new model that will meet your needs in an affordable and financially sustainable manner.
