Clinton High School Awarded Highest National Honor
Clinton High School has earned the highest national honor a public school may receive from the United States Department of Education having been named a “2017 National Blue Ribbon School.” Clinton qualified for the designation as an “Exemplary High Performing School” which means it is among the highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. This is not the first time for such an honor as the Clinton High School and Middle School previously earned the distinction in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990 respectively.
Since 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools program has afforded the federal government the opportunity to honor the most effective and innovative schools in America. Clinton High School Principal Dr. Matthew Lee will accept the award on behalf of the district at a special National Blue Ribbon Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 7th. Lee stated, "Education is a process and not just a single event. Success at the high school is attributed to dedicated students, a passionate K-12 faculty, supportive administration and Board of Education, and collaborative parents. Our success exists because student learning is at the heart of every decision of everything we do.”
Members of the Board of Education joined teachers, Dr. Lee, and Clinton Superintendent Dr. Stephen Grimm at the school to hear the announcement from the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who stated “National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future. You are visionaries, innovators and leaders.”
Dr. Grimm stated “It feels great to be recognized with such a prestigious honor which further reveals the rich history and tradition of educational excellence in the Clinton schools and community that continues today.”
Board President Mrs. Mary Lou Lauchert said “I am very proud of our students, staff and community who work so hard every day to support our mission of proudly educating and empowering our students to realize their highest potential as thoughtful, contributing members of our society and this community.”
