The Superintendent is the CEO for the school district, responsible to ensure that school policies are implemented, staffing patterns meet the needs of the school district, overseeing all matters related to school district management, and recommending a budget to the School Board for their consideration.

The response would depend on whether or not the information is easily accessible or would take time to research at various levels. A number of factors could be involved, such as legal interpretations, state regulations, local policies, and other circumstantial differences that would be situation specific.

Technology is an important part of the student learning experience at CCS. As a school district, we provide students and teachers with some form of access to technology in almost every instructional space. As more digital tools and devices are introduced into our classrooms and meaningfully integrated by our teachers, the need for additional access will only increase. Additionally, the use of technology in schools has grown exponentially throughout the last few years as they have adjusted to new and different digital learning platforms. Based on feedback from parents, students, faculty, and staff members, the District is currently in the process of developing a plan that will provide technology (devices) to students to use throughout the school day and at home.

A subcommittee of Superintendents from Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES and Madison-Oneida BOCES meet several times each year beginning in December. The committee recommends a calendar to the Superintendent in each of the BOCES based on a number of criteria including legal holidays, state test dates, typical break periods, etc. At that point, each BOCES agrees to a general calendar for their component school districts, attempting to align as closely as possible with neighboring BOCES. Then, each school district accepts the calendar for the following year, attempting to align as closely possible with schools in their region.

The Positivity Project (P2) is a character education program that was developed in 2015 in collaboration with an elementary school in New York State. Character Education has been integrated into most schools for many years and can be taught through various frameworks and programs. Present in schools in over twenty states in the US, the Positivity Project is a program that was established with the premise, “Together, we will create citizens and leaders who will enhance our communities and country by focusing on character strengths and positive relationships.” The entire program is based on twenty-four character traits that are discussed by our teachers and students in grades K-12 each week. Throughout the District, P2 is supported by our school social workers, classroom teachers, teaching assistants, and administrators.
