Transportation

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a campaign to remind drivers of the dangers of illegally passing a stopped school bus. The campaign features new videos — Stop Means Stop and Don’t Be This Driver — intended to emphasize the fact that the greatest risk to a child isn’t riding in a bus, but approaching or leaving one.

About Us

The Clinton Central School District Transportation Department plays a vital role in safely transporting students across the district’s 38 square miles. Each year, district buses travel approximately 224,500 miles, with an additional 43,000 miles for sports events and field trips. We currently maintain a fleet of approximately 23 buses and employ about 30 full-time and part-time drivers and monitors. Bus transportation is available to all students in grades Pre-K through 12 who attend Clinton Central School. We also provide late buses several days a week for elementary, middle, and high school students who stay after school for extracurricular activities.

Now hiring Bus Drivers

You’ll begin as a substitute driver, with the opportunity to move into a permanent position as shifts become available. While this position rarely becomes full-time (40 hours per week), permanent drivers who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, and state retirement.

The starting wage for substitute drivers is $20+ per hour, and Clinton CSD provides paid training for all new drivers.

School Bus Safety and Student Conduct:

Safety is the Transportation Department’s top priority. Regular training sessions and school bus evacuation drills—held three times per year—for students and drivers promote familiarity with transportation safety rules and regulations.

District administrators actively monitor student conduct to ensure these guidelines are followed, while drivers, teachers, principals, parents, and students work collaboratively to maintain a secure and respectful environment on every route. Our drivers reserve the right to assign seats, at their discretion, to help maintain safety during your child’s bus ride.

As a district, we encourage all community members to support student safety by remaining alert for young pedestrians, obeying school speed limits, and always stopping for buses displaying flashing red lights. Together, we can help ensure an injury-free and successful school year for all Clinton students.
