Lightspeed Alert

Dear Clinton Central School District Families,

Technology plays an important role in the student learning experience at CCS. As we continue to integrate digital tools into our classrooms, we remain committed to providing a safe and secure online environment for all students.

To support this, CCS uses Lightspeed, a filtering and monitoring system that helps us meet the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements. Lightspeed is designed to:

Block access to inappropriate websites to ensure students are engaging with safe and educational content.
Monitor internet usage on school-issued devices and accounts to promote responsible digital citizenship.
Provide reports and alerts to help our staff proactively address any concerns related to online safety.

For the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, we have implemented an additional layer of student safety and security by enabling a feature called Lightspeed Alert, an early detection solution that monitors students’ online activity on their school devices for signs of self-harm, violence, and bullying.

Lightspeed Alert scans student activity for concerning words or phrases on school-owned devices, in school productivity suites (Google Workspace), and in internet searches on personal devices that are using our school network. If concerns are identified, notifications are sent in real time to Lightspeed Alert safety specialists for review. These trained personnel evaluate all alerts, conduct threat assessments, and notify district safety personnel immediately when necessary.

What does this mean for students?

Lightspeed filtering and Lightspeed Alert automatically filter and monitor internet activity on any device where a student is logged into their CCS Google account, whether at school or at home. To maintain privacy, we encourage students to log out of their school account when using personal or family devices.

As always, we appreciate your partnership in supporting responsible technology use. If you have any questions about Lightspeed or student internet safety, please reach out to Michelle Gabree-Huba, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Technology (mgabreehuba@ccs.edu).

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe and focused on learning!
