Letter from Superintendent - March 4 2020

March 4, 2020

Dear Families,

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with important information related to Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and the Clinton Central School District response.

In our schools, we already have systems in place for responding to illnesses, such as continued monitoring of the absences and illnesses of our staff and students, daily cleaning practices with the proper technique and materials, and communicating with our local health department and school physician as needed.

In addition, I have recently added to our emergency plans a specific portion related to pandemics, which is focusing our preparedness and guiding our action and planning.  Some of these actions include collaborating with the local and state health departments, providing educational materials to students, staff and parents, reviewing our disinfection processes, and preparing for the possibility of virus related school closure.

Be assured that we are taking steps consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the New York State Health Department to mitigate the spread of this and other similarly transmitted viruses.  We are also in communication with, and taking guidance from, the Oneida County Health Department.

The following are some of the recommendations from the CDC and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) aimed at responding to this emerging public health threat:

  • If you are sick, stay home from school - this includes staying home from school events, such as sporting contests and games, and even the school musical this week.
  • Avoid close contact with those who are already sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or into your elbow.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.  If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

I have included some additional resources below and urge you to stay up to date by visiting the State Department of Health and the CDC websites.
