Mrs. Hui Chen

Hi, my name is Hui Chen. This is my 9th year teaching Mandarin Chinese at Clinton.I enjoy working with friendly students and faculty here.

I am a Chinese native speaker. I am very grateful that I was able to get Syracuse University Fellowships and Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships to complete my doctoral study at Syracuse Univeristy. I graduated with M.S.in Childhood Education and Ph.D. in Teaching and Curriculum from SU. Currently I have professional teacher certificates in Mandarin Chinese grades 1-12 and in childhood grades 1-6.

My job is pretty unique as I teach both students at Clinton and students at far-site schools. Every year I teach for about 7 school districts. My students were from Clinton Middle and High School; Westmoreland Midddle and High School; Waterville High School; Sauquoit Valley High School; Central Valley Middle and High School; JFK Middle School; Watkins Glen High School; Coxsackie Athens High School; Proctor high school; and Adirondack middle and high school. It is nice that many American students in this area are given the opportunity to study Chinese. It is chellening for the students but it is good to know that they are experiencing new way of learning/teaching and they are adjusting themselves very quickly. I perceive me and my students as learning from each other. My students are learning Chinese language and culture from me and I am learning American langauge and culture from them. Also the comparsion helps us all to rethink our own language and culture and find our connections.

I enjoy sitting in my backyard. It is a blessing to have a backyard. That is what my parents have been dreaming of.

Email me at hchen@oneida-boces.org or hchen@ccs.edu if there is any question or concern.
