Dear Parents, Here are the suggested reading lists for students who wish to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge, or who just want to read independently. Please keep in mind that no reading list can meet the needs of every child, however these lists include authors who are popular, timely, and whose works tie in loosely with the instructional program for the grade your child is entering. I have also included recent award winning fiction and non-fiction titles. Note the different categories—your child may choose from any category and get credit for the Summer Reading Challenge. Please make sure you read the rules and guidelines for this summer enrichment program so that there is no confusion. Students who complete the Challenge will be recognized at the PARP assembly in September. Reading over the summer is a good way for your child to practice those skills taught during the school year. Reading daily also helps students retain those skills, thus it is very important to include some daily reading along with all of the other summer activities that keep you busy as a family. Reading together provides quality family time and allows the opportunity to interact and communicate with your child about anything that comes to mind as your child’s imagination is sparked through the books and magazines you share together. Sharing books, magazines and ideas is a great way to learn what interests your children or concerns them. Here are some Internet sites which provide reading lists:
