Dear Parents:
The Summer Reading Program at CCS has been very successful in past years. As we continue to promote increased student literacy, we are extending this program during the summer of 2007. All Clinton students, who will be in grade 9 in September, as well as those students enrolled in English 10H for the coming school year, will be required to read a minimum of 4 books that they have not previously read.*
Suggested titles can be found on our school web site, which can be accessed on the Internet, either from home or from the Kirkland Town Library.
To obtain the information, go to www.ccs.edu

Reading Programs.
Students will be required to complete a short response to each book read. Your child’s English teacher will collect the four responses by Friday, September 28, 2007. This assignment will be counted as approximately 10% of the first marking period grade in English Language Arts (ELA). Extra credit will be awarded for additional books read. Students need to complete the required response sheets for those additional books, in order to obtain credit for them.
This information has been explained to students in their current ELA classes. The teachers and the school library media specialists will assist students in selecting titles.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Patricia Dawes, K-12 Curriculum Principal
*Sophomores enrolled in AP European Studies are highly encouraged to read selections designated and provided by Mrs. Glickman. These readings will be counted as two books toward satisfaction of the English 10H summer reading requirement.
