Clinton Middle School Summer Reading Program Seventh Grade To All Incoming Seventh Graders: The English Language Arts (ELA) teachers here at CMS are committed to encouraging students to become strong readers and life-long learners. As part of this commitment, we have designed a reading program that includes variety and choice as a way to encourage reading during the summer. As always, we suggest you read age appropriate books, a variety of genres, and authors. A list of suggested titles, for middle school students, is available on the CCS website. Requirements: · Read a minimum of four (4) books of your choice. · Select and complete the Literary Report forms provided for the four (4) books of choice. It is preferred that you select a different form for each book. All reports will be collected for grading on Friday, September 28, 2007. Each Literary Report form will be worth 25 points for a total of 100 possible points. Students may read additional books for extra credit (2 points per book for a maximum of 10 points), but a Literary Report form must be included to receive credit. The grade will constitute 10% of the first quarter grade. The titles listed below are reserved for in-class reading during the school year; therefore, we ask that you do not read: · Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor · Witness by Karen Hesse · My Brother Sam is Dead by Collier and Collier · Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes · Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson This will allow the classroom reading experience to be new and exciting for all students. If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please contact Mrs. Dawes, Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, at pdawes@ccs.edu. Have a great summer and read, read, read!
