What is Dollars for Scholars?
Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, is a national network of community-based, volunteer-operated scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods throughout the United States.
What is the purpose of Clinton Dollars for Scholars?
The purpose of the Clinton Chapter of Dollars for Scholars is to encourage students in the Clinton Central School District to pursue post-secondary education by enhancing their financial ability and understanding of how to do so.
How are the Scholarships Awarded?
Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Clinton Central School who are planning to attend a two or four year accredited college. The selection of scholarship recipients and distribution of funds is determined jointly by the Chapter and the Clinton Central School District. Scholarships have been awarded by the Chapter since its founding in 1984.
What does Scholarship America do for local chapters?
Scholarship America has created the Dollars for Scholars Collegiate Partners Program which includes more than 500 colleges, universities and post-secondary schools across the United States. These institutions agree not to reduce their grant aid when Dollars for Scholars scholarships come to their campuses. Some of these institutions also match Dollars for Scholars awards.
How can contributions be made?
Donations may be designated as unrestricted gifts to the Clinton Chapter’s General Endowment. Contributions also may be made as restricted gifts designated either as merit scholarships or scholarships awarded solely on the basis of the recipient’s financial need. Such gifts may be named by the donor by agreement with the Chapter. Gifts established as endowments must achieve a determined level of principal before awards may be made. Contributions may also be made to existing scholarship endowments listed on the attached response card.
Any contribution, regardless of the size, is very important. Donations are fully tax deductible in accord with New York State and Federal Law.
Are there other ways to contribute?
You may contribute your time, energy and ideas to the chapter by serving on the Board of Directors or one of its committees, such as Awards, Publicity, Fund Raising.
