THE CLINTON COMMUNITY

Clinton is a picturesque suburban and rural community located in central New York at the foothills of the Adirondacks, approximately 12 miles from Utica and 45 miles east of Syracuse. Settled in 1787, the area is rich in history and counts the Reverend Samuel Kirkland, for whom the Town of Kirkland is named, among its early settlers. He founded Hamilton-Oneida Academy, which became present day Hamilton College in 1812. Clintonians are socioeconomically diverse and include executives, professionals, academics, farmers, and skilled workers. The community has a history of support for its public schools.

Clinton and its surrounding communities of Clark Mills, Franklin Springs, and Kirkland encompass 45 square miles and a resident population of approximately 10,000. In addition to being located near cultural and recreational sites, Clinton is home to the Kirkland Arts Center, which offers exhibitions, cultural events, special programs, and a variety of classes.

The CCS Performing Arts Center showcases the community’s commitment to the performing arts and is quickly becoming one of the premiere performance facilities in the Central New York area. The community, with its parks, playing fields, tennis courts, Boynton Pool, and Clinton Arena, provides year-round activities for every interest and ability. The area’s natural beauty, affordable housing, community involvement, and efficient town government are appealing characteristics for those seeking a supportive environment and quality of life.
