The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application for federal student aid that collects household and financial information used to calculate the expected family contribution. There is a worksheet available to help guide students and parents through the on-line process.
This is a financial aid form that is similar to the FAFSA, but also gathers information on property and other assets. This is used primarily by private colleges to help determine eligibility for institutional assistance. There is a fee for this service, based upon the number of schools to which the college information is forwarded.
