Clinton Central School District Physical Education
suggestions for fitness for the
families in our school district:
Run, walk, hike, bike, swim, canoe, ice skate, participate in racket sports, cross country ski, join an aerobic or martial arts class, make up your own family activity – anything that will get your family up and moving.
Please share with us fitness strategies that you and your family engage in to stay healthy! We know how busy your lives can be, so we appreciate all that you do to help keep your child (ren) healthy!
Ø Schedule a regular time for family physical activity during the week. Make it a FUN time to look forward to each week.
Ø Take turns selecting an activity.
Ø Keep a log of activity for each family member.
Ø Make sure that you select activities that everyone can participate in - try to keep Grandma and Grandpa involved, too, and give rewards for success.
Ø Keep the activities FUN - the emphasis should not be on winning!
Ø Try to limit the time on the computer or watching TV.
Ø Check out the areas near your home for parks, hiking trails, public pools, or tennis courts that are free and accessible. Try the Clinton Arena for open family skate time.
Ø Try orienteering. We offer a course for the students in grades 6-12. Map out a course and walk, jog, run, or bike it. Hide some treasures (example – a “stay up one hour past bedtime” pass).
Ø Think of all of the summertime activities you can do at our many close lakes; there are a lot of FUN water sports.
Ø Set up volleyball courts or badminton courts. Your yard will quickly become one of the favorite places on your block.
Ø Start your own family Olympics, with events of your choice.
Ø Talk with neighbors on your block; see what activities you can do with other families.
Ø Participate in a fun run or bike-a-thon.
Ø Make it - FUN - rake leaves and jump in them, shovel snow and make a snow sculpture. Get everyone moving.
Ø Join a health club, fitness center, or the “Y” as a family group.
Ø It doesn’t always have to be cardiovascular. Join a golf course as a family. There are lots of public and private courses nearby. Or, go bowling!
Ø Spend as much time as possible outside.
Thank you for all you do with your child(ren) to
keep them healthy and fit!
